CDM Duties

The purpose of this video is to give a practical summary of the legal duties placed on designers of all disciplines in meeting with their legal CDM 2015 duties as seen through the eyes of a fully experienced Principal Designer.

The course is ideal for people in organisations who have to manage risk and resources, typically line managers. The aims of the course are to ensure safety requirements are appreciated, provide the skills to critically review their own departmental systems for safety, and identify opportunities to introduce new controls or implement changes as appropriate to make their department work more safely.

On Average 20 people die each year carrying out work in a confined space, this video is prepared to help designers understand the legal definition of a confined space such that they can take this into account when developing their designs.

This course offers the participant a general awareness of the legal requirements of the regulations, combined with practical experience for carrying out a manual handling assessment, the nature and types of injuries that can occur through poor lifting and carrying techniques and the correct approach to preventing musculoskeletal injuries and Work-related upper limb disorder.

Participants will gain an insight into the type of chemical hazards that exist in the work place and how the application of this regulation can minimise the risk from exposure to substances harmful to the health of persons at work. This workshop offers a practical approach to explaining the fundamental and practical requirements of COSHH, practical control measures, material safety data sheets, through to occupational health monitoring.

The course is structured to identify the legislative requirements of the regulation, and a practical approach to carrying out workstation assessments. Participants will learn about the consequences of inadequate workstations in terms of consequences the mental and physical well-being of users.
